On September 27, 1997, the original core of the City of Winnipeg, the Exchange District, was declared a National Historic Site by the federal Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable Sheila Copps.

Many of the buildings featured in this site are located in the Exchange District as well as other parts of Winnipeg. We hope you enjoy this educational site that will take you on an exciting journey through the history of one of Canada’s great cities.
